Orr 1932 Rincaldo's Ranch, 1/2 mi. se Vernalis, Stanislaus Co. Calif. Nov. 4, 1932 margin, as were two American Egrets. A flock of 10+ Western Dark Sparrows were seen in a wild rose thicket out on edge of a meadow at 9:30 a.m. Several were heard singing. This is the only point on the ranch where I have pre- viously noted these birds. In Nov., 1931 a flock was seen daily at this same point. A flock of 60+ Meadow Larks were seen out in a field over grown with a low type of tarweed". When alarmed they flew away in groups of 20's + with several second inter- val between the flight of each flock. Two Fox Sparrows were heard singing this morn- ing irregularly. Both of them were at differ- ent point in the wild rose thickets along the river. Two Black Phrebes seen on perches over the water along the river throughout most of the day. Buteo borealis seen twice today. A single Corderant was noted early this a.m. 6+ Ruby-crowned Knights heard singing today at various point about ranch along the riparian growth. Two small flocks of geese heard in distance this morning about 11:9 m. This evening I succeeded in shooting another brush rabbit, and placed out 13 too rat traps in suitable places in the wild rose tangles, for wood rats.
