could be seen flying out into the air after some insects
that must have been present in large numbers,
judging from the activity on the part of the birds.
Great Horned Owl, ? & ?, heard calling from 4:30 p.m.
until dusk.
Nov. 4, 1932
Only one wood rat, an adult ♂, was taken in the
traps this a.m., although two others were springing.
No brush rabbits were seen this a.m. between 6:30
and 8:15 a.m. A number of cottontails were seen,
and heard thumping in the brush. A Green
Heron was noted at 9:30 a.m. perched on a partly
submerged log, beneath some overhanging willows
along the river. Two flocks of about 15 American
White Pelicans were seen sailing about during the
morning.
I found a rather extensive pond (about 1/2 mi. long
and 200 yards wide) along some bottom land
where the water had evidently run over from
the river last winter. A small flock of Pipits
were seen on the muddy shore as were 6 Wilson's
Snipes, 3 Black-backed Stilt (strikethrough), 10 Killdeers.
On
the pond were 4 Coots, 2 Eared Grebes, and some
ducks too far distant to identify. Three Black-
crowned Night Herons and two Great Blue
