along the creek. I took another gopher from a set up on the ridge. Miller examined a Warbling Vireo nest found by Blanchard in a small willow the day before yesterday and thought he saw 3 eggs in the nest. The next day there were definitely 4 eggs in the nest and this a.m. I found 3 young hatched at 10:30a.m. It is possible, Miller thinks, that he was mistaken in the first count. The bird that flew away from the nest became very excited when I approached and came with-in 2 feet of my head as I looked into the nest. It had the crown feathers raised and uttered a crow-like buzz, reminding one of a grackle. The other member of the pair, supposedly the ot was singing in a Lodgepole Pine 30 feet away.
Moved camp at 10:50a.m. to go to the Salmon River Mountains. Ate lunch at a small creek near Donnelly, Valley County where we collected a number of Vrana. Fox Sparrows, Song Sparrows, White-crowned Sparrows, Brewer Sparrows, Yellow Warblers, Wood Pewees and Barn Swallows all noted in general vicinity. Found a dead Snow Shoe Hare along road 3 mi S Donnelly near a willow thicket along the creek where open lodge-pole forest surrounded. At Cascade two pairs of Mountain Bluebirds were seen nesting in boxes in town. Went E from here to a point 5 mi. E Warm L., 7000 ft., Valley Co., Idaho.
