Orr 1932 SW slope Cuddy Mtn, 4600 ft, Washington Co, Idaho. July 1, 1932 This p.m. I placed out 45 traps along the creek among willows and alders and humble berry. Captured a small toad of unknown species (Buaphus truei) along a small rivulet flowing from a spring. It hopped from a mossy bank into the water. Even though it was wrapped in wet moss it failed to live more than 1/2 hr. From 6 to 6:30 p.m. An old miner living 100 yards from camp told me that he remembered Borell and Gelmore who camped here two years ago. He also gave me a new vernacular name for Citellus columbianus, calling them "Go-downs". According to him they come out about the first of April and then go into aestivation (the adults he said) around July 1st. Flying Squirrels & water Shrews are present, the latter abundant. He said that he had never seen any Corvis about here, claiming he had seen many in Colorado. Woodchucks are present on the other side of the mountain, lower down. This evening I heard two Poorwills. Shot a chipmunk before dark. Miller brought in a Red Squirrel and a Citellus columbianus, also a chipmunk this p.m. At dusk a certain type of bat was seen flying low over the creek. Other types were seen foraging out over the barren hillsides. A willow Thrush was heard after sundown, along the slope near the creek.
