Singing from the top of one of the cottonwoods along the creek that was entirely new to me. It reminded me somewhat of a Chat. Bats seen irregularly just before dark. Saw a Swallow-tailed Hawk near camp in a small clearing along the river at 7:20 p.m. Ran into Amelanchier & Fir thicket along the stream in about the same manner that a Brush Rabbit would. Sun later at dusk, but too wild to get a shot at it.

Traps this a.m. contained 3 Peromyscus maniculatus and 1 Microtus modestus. One gopher taken from sets. Between 4:45 and 8 a.m. around camp the following birds were noted: 2 Yellow Warblers, 4 Alder Warblers, 2 Audubon Warblers, 2 Golden-crowned Kinglets, 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, 1 Hermit Thrush, 1 Olive-backed Thrush, 2 Robins, 1 Downy Woodpecker, 4 Chipping Sparrows, 3 Evening Grosbeaks, 1 Cassin's Purple Finch, 1 Mourning Dove, 1 Wright Flycatcher, 2 Pacific Flycatchers. Red Squirrels heard calling at 5 a.m. Shot one near camp. During 9 a.m. lifted out 6 mouse traps and placed out 4 gopher sets. At 11 a.m. traps contained two chipmunks and I shot 2 mice and a Callospermophilus. Miller says he saw some Celebes Columbianus. He shot a chipmunk and Blanchard brought in a Red Squirrel. The bird that I heard yesterday and was unable to see and identify was heard by Miller. He shot it and it proved to be a Red-eyed Vireo.
