128 Arr 1932 12 mi. S Canyon City, 5500 ft., Grant Co., Ore. June 26, 1932 disappeared. They likewise live in less open country, Miller having found some in a grove of Aspens. June 27, 1932 A few traps left out for chipmunks yesterday contained only one immature Peromyscus maniculatus. Chipmunks are extremely scarce about here. We shot one near camp early this a.m., but aside from that one only one other has been seen during our stay. It appears to be Eutamias amoenus. Went down to take some pictures of the area where the snow shoe Hares live and saw a fifth individual in the area which is approximately 100 x 50 yd. It was on a dark portion of the trail beneath firs and ran into a fir thicket when I came within 50 feet. The light was too poor to photograph it. Saw four Rocky Mountain Jays and several Steller Jays nearby. Took Miller down to where the Red Squirrels were seen yesterday and he shot one. Found a squirrel nest up in a small fir. It was 25 feet above the ground, located on two branches where they joined the main trunk. The outer part was composed of small twigs of wood, the nest being covered over with the same.
