perched on a Yellow Pine. Another seen in adjacent
tree. Hairy Woodpeckers seen in Aspen & Yellow
Pine near camp. Red-breasted Nuthatches, Audubon
Warblers, Evening Grosbeaks, Cassin Purple Finches,
Sparrow Hawk, Mourning Dove, Williamson
Seepsneakers seen in addition to birds noted last
evening. Saw a Kellospermophiles up in Yellow
Pine belt this a.m. but it ran into a hole in
a fallen log before I could take it. At 10:30 a.m.
a Microtus mordax was seen to run thru some
fairly open grass 10 ft. to a hole. I placed a
rat trap there soon afterwards and in the
middle of the afternoon captured a half-grown Oregon
Ground Squirrel. Miller brought in a young squirrel
of the same species about 1/4 grown. A pair of House
Mice were seen during part of the day next to camp
in the Aspens. A small hole is present in one
of the trees about 12 feet above the ground. It appears
to be a mice nest, but nesting may be over because
the birds were not seen to enter the hole. A pair
of Hairy Woodpeckers never also seen in the Aspens
and a hole similar to that used by that species was
noted but the birds were not seen to enter while I
observed them. A pair of Warbling Vireos were seen
& heard in the Alders & Aspens along the stream
ty camp all day. This evening I placed out 57
mice, 5 rat, & 4 gopher traps along the
