16 mi. W Bend, 6500 ft., Deschutes Co, Oregon. June 18, 1932 Although we came down and ran across a 10 ft. clearing at which time I procured it. Shot a Eutamias amoenus in chaparral. Callospermophilus exited on top of a 10 foot fir stump. Another seen to run into a hollow log, where I later placed a trap. Last night Mountain Lion tracks were quite clearly recognizable in the dust up on the ridge. Miller brought in some feces this a.m. that look like bear. They are composed largely of pulp and ant exoskeletons. He said that he saw 2 White-tailed Deer on top of an adjacent hill. This p.m. I placed out another gopher set & took one from one of the traps. Shot a Wright Flycatcher in Lodge Pole Pine Thicket this evening. Both Ruby-crowned Kinglets seen about nest at 9:24. 10 min. later one entered the nest. Other heard singing nearby in Fir. Hermit Thrushes (at least 10+) during 1 mile walk around camp heard singing this evening between 6:30 & 7:30, some up until 8:10 p.m. One seen perched 25 feet above ground in a Fir. Another in the same kind of a tree 50 feet above ground, was seen at 6:50 p.m. The night is cold & windy. It is snowing 2 miles away on the peaks. Only 2 Night Hawks were seen this evening and at 8 p.m. None were observed flying about or heard calling. Two Rufous Hummingbirds were seen this morning, perched on top of small Lodge Pole Pines near Manganita cover slope where 6+ were seen this morning.
