Upright Flycatcher was seen in same locality where I
shot one yesterday. It was singing at 6:45 a.m. on top
of a small pine. Three juncos were heard during
1 1/2 hour walk thru Lodge Pole Pine. A Western
Tanager was observed singing at 7:30 a.m. in a
rather dense pine forest. It sang from near the
tops of the larger trees, keeping rather well hidden.
Audubon Warblers and Cassin Purple Finches were
seen. A Ruby-crowned Kinglet was heard near
camp at 8:15 a.m. No chipmunks were seen up to
8 a.m. during walk. It was probably too cold for them.
Moved camp in p.m. up to a point in the Cascades 16 mi.
W of Bend, 6200 ft., Deschutes Co., Oregon. Along the road
between Lapine & Bend two Oregon Ground Squirrels were seen.
Another was seen in Bend on an outlying lawn. This evening
Pacific Righthawks were seen from sunset until 9:20 p.m. when
the moon arose. One bat was seen just after dark.
