Hut across flooded meadow this a.m. to pond 1
mi. E of here. Saw pair of Mallards on pond. Ex-
amined Redwing & Marsh Hawk nest. Also found
some new Redwing & Brewer Blackbird nests.
Found a Savannah Sparrow's nest. First young
Redwing hatched. Shot a Traill Flycatcher & a
Long-billed Owl within 100 yards of pond.
Water in meadow has subsided to some extent,
but still pretty wet. No gophers seen on islands
today. Probably all have died in that area. Only
1 pair of Horned Lark seen during walk.

Spent a.m. across flooded meadow where I was yesterday.
Found a Meadow Lark and co Long-eared Owl nest. Between
7:15 and 8:15 a.m., I went in side of a circle of willows,
Ribes and wild rose, where there was a clearing about
40 ft in diameter. Diagram
looking down upon the place:
The Salix, Rosa & Ribes formed a dense
hedge about the place, containing
2 Yellow-throats, 1 Yellow Warbler, 1
that, 1 Traill Flycatcher. The
yellow-throats were seen in the
lower half of the brush (0-6 ft.)
most of the time. The Yellow-
