5 mi. SE Millet P.O., Kye Co., Nev. May 17, 1932 were the most conspicuous reptiles. Scelotani were or less from the alkali soil to sand soil. About the only type of bird life in this region that was seen was Otocoris alpestris. This evening we attempted to locate a rail that was calling in a small bunch of cattails. May 18, 1932 Just east of camp this a.m. over meadow, north end where not flooded, to the pond 1 1/4 miles east of cabin. Flooded meadow seems to have affected animal life. Insects seen in numbers, dead, on top of the water. Found a gopher on a small island when it was just above water level, probably hundreds in same condition. May 19, 1932 Luisdale and I dragged meadow, where not flooded, this a.m. for Horned Lark nests. Unsuccessful. Spent latter part of a.m. over at pond where I was yesterday. Had good chance to observe a Sora Rail feeding. Flood water still high. Found another gopher on an isle, and L. found several more. This evening we went down to see if we could locate that rail that has been calling. Made it fly at least. Noted following characteristics: very small; call like an electric buzz; a long and 2 shorter.
