E Mesquite, 1750 ft., Mohave Co., Ariz. # 416 Mus musculus - ♂ 155-78-20-11 # 417 Perognathus paraminutus - ♀ 127-66-19-6 Coll. Oct. 1, 1931 Virgin River, 3/4 mi. E Mesquite , 1750 ft. Clarke Co., Nev. Out of 72 traps set last night, flew 30 in swampy fresh & cattail land produced 1 Retherodontomys m. angelotis and 1 Mus musculus. Forty two traps set across the river on sandy-gravel soil beneath creosote bushes produced 5 Dipodomys merriami, 1 Perognathus paraminutus and one Mus musculus. Cardinals, Abert Juncos, Robins, Red-winged Blackbirds, Tule Ducks, Dark Sparrows, White-crowned Sparrows, Yellow-Throats, Marsh Hawks, Cooper Hawks, Sharp-shinned Hawks, Pintail Ducks, Black-crowned Night Herons, Killdeer, Night Hawks all common. Saw a Snowy Egret this afternoon. Many Duvial about, presumably Gambel Duvial. Looked about marshes most of the late afternoon for Microtus. Saw no beavers whatsoever. Placed out 8 gopher sets & caught one in half an hour. Mounds are down in marshy land grown over with tules, sedge, willows & rushes. Not a single bat seen in early evening after dark in Mesquite heard some flying about.
