Virgin River, 3/4 mile E Mesquite, 1750 ft., Lake
Co., Nevada.
Sept. 29, 1931
Valley to Caliente. Thousands of ducks
could be seen on the lakes in the valley,
but we didn't stop to identify them.
Stayed at Caliente for the night.
Sept. 30, 1931
Left Caliente in middle of the morning
and went south east on the east side
of the Mormon Mtns. to Boulder ville.
From here we headed up the Arrow-
head Trail to Mesquite. Made
camp 1/4 mile east of Mesquite just
within a few hundred feet of the
Arizona line. The Virgin River is
just round a few hundred yards.
As we came to our camp site a
Coach Whip Snake raced along the
ground and climbed into a Mesquite
tree. It was difficult to catch and
could climb quite readily.
Quats, fleas and mosquitoes were
numerous and annoying. Many small
farms along the river!
Set traps this evening for animals
in swampy country and on the
south side of the river for desert
rodents. Bats very abundant.
