Left Berkeley at 9:30 A.M. on May 16, 1931.
Reached Kern Canyon that night.
Route of travel from Berkeley was thru
Lafayette, Tracy, Modesto to Bakers-
field, thence east towards the Sierras.
Started off again at 5:30 A.M. on
May 17th. Went thru Walker Pass
and Westward Pass to Lida. Arrived
in Goldfield, Nevada, around 6:30 P.M.
Camped outside of Goldfield that
night and met W.C. Russel and
C. Ward at noon.
Bought provisions that P.M. and
started south after supper. Camped
outside of Hot Springs, Nye Co., arriv-
ing there at 9 P.M. Next A.M. we
established temporary camp in a
vacant cabin 3 1/2 miles NE of Beatty.
Elevation 3400 feet.
Camp is located in a valley thru
which the Amargosa River flows. The
latter forms quite a swampy area
back of the house.
Temperature today was moderate,
but quite windy, the wind coming
from the north.
