Orr 1931 [Robert J.] Amargosa River, 3 1/2 mi. NE Beatty 3400 ft., Nye Co., Nev. May 19, 1931 Left Berkeley at 9:30 A.M. on May 16, 1931. Reached Kern Canyon that night. Route of travel from Berkeley was thru Lafayette, Tracy, Modesto to Bakers- field, thence east towards the Sierras. Started off again at 5:30 A.M. on May 17th. Went thru Walker Pass and Westward Pass to Lida. Arrived in Goldfield, Nevada, around 6:30 P.M. Camped outside of Goldfield that night and met W.C. Russel and C. Ward at noon. Bought provisions that P.M. and started south after supper. Camped outside of Hot Springs, Nye Co., arriv- ing there at 9 P.M. Next A.M. we established temporary camp in a vacant cabin 3 1/2 miles NE of Beatty. Elevation 3400 feet. Camp is located in a valley thru which the Amargosa River flows. The latter forms quite a swampy area back of the house. Temperature today was moderate, but quite windy, the wind coming from the north.
