Neotoma
14 mi. E of Calexico, Imperial Co., California.
Dec. 27, 1938 - seem to be in poor condition physically due to the hot winters.
Jan. 1, 1939 - 4 mi. N of Warrens Well, San Bernardino Co., Calif. -
Here there are many large granite rocks and piles of granite, which have cavities and crevices in them.
Nearly all of such places are occupied by woodrats as evidenced by droppings and trapping.
The rats here seem to be eating juniper berries to a great extent.
The Peromyscus taken seem to be somewhat connected with Neotomas as they are caught nearly always, close to Neotoma nests.
Jan. 3, 1939 - 8 mi. SSE of Hesperia, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Here there are piles of sticks & freshly cut juniper at the foot of many of the juniper trees that I are woodrat nests but we have only been able to catch one Neotoma.
