Neotoma
Arrow Seco, 12 mi. S of Palo Verde, Imperial Co., Calif.
Dec. 27, 1938 - Koford took a young Neotoma under a mesquite tree near a wash. I have not seen any neos probably because I don't know where to look.
Koford saw a small animal that he said was either a woodrat or a ground squirrel.
14 mi. E of Calipco, Imperial Co., California.
Dec. 26, 1938 - There are many woodrat droppings outside. Just at appear to be old nest under mesquite on hillocks that rise up to 10 ft. in some cases more. I have set 6 rat traps when I found the freshest droppings or freshly cut mesquite leaves. I have not seen any tracks that I thought were Neotoma out on the sand away from the hillocks.
Dec. 27, 1938 - I took two rats & lost a trap (carried away) and Koford caught 3 rats. All of Kofords are infected with one or two bot warbles (Cuterebra) either under the neck or on the chest. Mine of mine had a very small warble that had not broken through to the outside surface, and the other was clean. The rats did not
