4 mi. N of Warrens Well, San Bernardino Co., Calif.
Dec. 30, 1938 Have not seen any birds but heard a thrasher and some other birds that give a call note like the tscep of a white-crowned sparrow.
Moved camp - went N through Imperial and Brawley and stopped just off highway U.S. 99 N of Brawley a few miles.
Dec. 31, 1938 Visited Salton Sea Beach and saw Willets, Godwits and some unidentified gulls and a sand piper.
Made camp about 4 mi. N of Warrens Well, San Bernardino Co., Calif. among large rocks with many junipers and tree yuccas present. There were many low shrubs I could not identify that formed rather a dense cover.
Jan. 1, 1939 Caught Dectoma (Dipodaga) Promopus and 2 gophers here. There were quite a few Uta lizards active during the day I could not catch them by hand but Koford shot one "gently" with a .22 revolver. They all showed a bright reddish orange spot just down these eye which showed up very well as the lizards moved around.
The soil here was dark and composed of decomposed granite and vegetable matter. The surface soil was light but beneath it was quite dark.
