North 10 (copy) spn 14 mi. E of Calexico, Imperial Co., Calif. Dec. 26, 1938 piece of jackrabbit I shot with .22 rifle this morning. Saw two thrashers (T. lecontei) and a mouse I could not identify also many small grey birds that looked like junctatches also juncos. Set 36 snap traps half which I covered partially with sand & rest uncovered, all baited with rolled oats. Also set 6 rat traps on hillocks for woodrats and made another kit for set with steel traps. In evening heard quite a few doves that seemed to be going to roost in the mesquite on the hillocks also saw what I think was a Say phobbe. Dec. 27, 1938 Caught 2 Dipodomys (merriami?) & Lyford cought a jackrabbit (in a steel trap) and a Dipo also later a thrasher (T. lecontei) in steel trap, I took 2 DeSorna & Lyford 3, they were all except one infected with Botwarbles (Cuterbra sp). I shot an immature white-crowned sparrow but it was moulting badly & feathers came out at the slightest touch, so I did not put it up. Broke camp at 3:30 p.m. & went through Calexico where mailed some post cards, and bought some supplies - made camp for night about 14 miles W of Calexico, about directly N of W end of Signal Tnt.
