(copy) cpa Arroyo Seco, 1/2 mi. S of Palo Verde, Imperial Co., Calif. Dec. 20, 1938 f one. Saw many Plainpeplars and woodpeckers that I think were Gila woodpeckers. Shot a cactus woodpecker. Departed about noon to look for higher camping spot. Got stuck in a wash because went through too slowly. Before leaving camp found two weevils (Curculionidae) and two beetles (Tenebrionidae) which I collected for Tillotson. Found camping place about 1 miles N of other place, still at foot of Arroyo Seco but further from cottonwoods trees. Set out 35 traps on sandy ground that was quite damp but had not been under water (flooded). Traps were put under creosote bushes, both on sandy and gravelly ground, but most were on damp sandy ground. Attempt was made to cover area thoroughly as it was somewhat isolated. The whole area was about 100 x 200 ft. Dec. 21, 1938 - Caught one Dipodomys (merriami) and one Perognathus. Will leave traps in same places tonight & try peanut butter for bait in place of rolled oats. Shot a mockingbird this morning. Heard coyotes howling last night also numerous great horned owls and some screech owls,
