Red Barn National Seashore, Lompoc, Calif. clear at 10 PM.
30 July temp at roost 20C. 6 Antiguus, 4 in a cluster by light & 2 apart. all are adult O's.
Only 6 Mystis guamensis visible. all collected.
3 were juveniles but flying. Many more bees
were present, up under the roof where we could
hear them but not see them. Only 2 young
bees beneath the roost. This time there were
several Icadeia on the E side off the barn,
mostly above the under the roof. But I
saw open, strong odor.
Nothing in the car born, the car was no
longer parked in an appropriate place to collect
droppings.
Picked up a Phoca at Kelham
beach. One of the rangers (Tan Vaughan)
drove us in. On the route in, less
than a mile from the gate beyond which
the public must walk, we saw several (4-5)
stick & leaf nest, 50-60 feet up in
a Douglas fir. Bob Jmer thought they
might be Phenocamp which are not
known from this far south. But
were likely squirrel nests. The nests
were about halfway between the
treth & the periphery & appeared to
be 1-2 feet in diameter.
