Wiley Plea 1974 Journal 58 Hasting Reservation, Monterey Co. Calif. 11 July perching tree & hovering (mostly above chanise [illegible] behind & above the water tank) In an hour & a half I found 2 pellets each of which contains pieces of mo Muscles . Perhaps 30 meters N of the water tank right near a fence (which runs along the water tank hill & E of the Red House). I heard a howling or grawling sound which I think at first might be still a cow near Bell's house. Suddenly a bobcat jumped out of a large of chanise about 20 feet in front of me. At charged right at me stopping about 10 feet from me. Then it panned, growling back slightly arched making defensive movement. I retreated. It charged again, up to no more than 7 & 8 feet from me. By this time I was 30 feet or so from the brush in which it had been concealed. I waved my arms yelled & picked up a piece of wood & it ran back to the brush. It continued growling until after I was out of sight. I am convinced that if I had continued rather than,
