6-7 Feb Cortage Bay, Isla Isabela, Galapagos, Ecuador
skittles & very few skells. Due to the
roughness of the landing & the fact that
we already have geckos from Tagus cave we
did not try to catole geckos at night.
Mosquitos at night!
7-8 Feb Conway Bay, Isla Santa Cruz, Galapagos, Ecuador
6 hr cruise arrived mid afternoon. Shallow.
Nearly part of Santa Cruz is generally low, no
very small peak near the beach. Sandy
beaches alternating with rocky beaches, 1:2 about.
Then very brief Cryptocarpus - Scutea zone,
usually less than 5m deep. Then shrubs,
small trees, some scutes, etc. Trees are
taller (up to 15') than we've seen for
several days, & denser. But very dry -
no leaves.
Sprinkled some, raining harder inland.
Overcast cleared up after 8-9 PM. Rainbow
in the moonlight, full moon. Temp in 70s,
humid. Mosquitos, flies & gnats.
Right after we arrived the Captain & his
wife (Schuyler) took us in the Zodiac to
a nearby bay S of the anchorage a short
distance. Water 10-15' deep, mangroves of
at least 2 spp intersected by numerous
narrow channels & lagoons. We cruised
around in this area for at least a half
