Lava is mostly in a solid plate with
large deep cracks. Depressions hold fresh &
brackish water. Grass grows in some of
the depressions & a pair of pintails floating on one.
Even though the water in the ponds nearer the sea was brackish, the egret still fell w. the tide. Sea water may put the entire water table right down.
Hard rain almost continually over the nearest mountains. In late afternoon it finally reached us & rained hard for a couple of hours. Refreshing. Water heard running under the lava.
Set out to take hawk in & near the mangroves. Caught 4 nets. Saw no rat sign.
But there is an abundant foot print sign, both dropping & brows. Evergreen also saw both cat (me) & dog (patton) feces.
I see deer, but it's an inappropriate place.
Birds difficult. He set up 4 net in late afternoon just before the rain, & Nancy set up another the next day. Between clumps of vegetation & along a sand strip saw a fair # of finches. Caught 5 flycatchers, warblers, & 1 finch.
