Islatown, Galapagos, Ecuador
3-4 Feb On the way between Tower Marshena
loaches started diving at the jig we were
Trolling. This has happened before, but never
Lure have we caught one. We tamed it a ways,
but when I tried to pull it in it dropped
dff - thoroughly drowned.
Isa Bertolome', Galapagos, Ecuador
4-5 Feb Numerous small islands here and
Sullivan Bay (Santiago) in general.
Seeposed to be great fishing ground, two
shared the anchorage with a lobster boat
(DeVillamil).
Get in around 5 PM. Drizzling overcast
cool (70's). Most of the group went ashore at Sullivan
Bay. Dottie & I took 21 Tomahawk to went
to nearly Bertolome'. 2 lava areas border
a 100m strip of sandy beach. One of the
lava areas is soft, like compressed
ash. Other area is hard & brittle apt to
crumble& break when trodden. Behind
beach is a 3-5m zone of Cryptocarya,
Sceuter, etc. Behind that drops down
into mangroves. I set the traps all
- thru the vegetation caught 11 rats of both species.
Saw a few Tropidurus, not many &
most quite small this w. adult colors (2').
Very skittish. Commonest in the sand area.
