Mayer Phil 1974 Journal 30 Islatown, Galapagos, Ecuador 3-4 Feb On the way between Tower Marshena loaches started diving at the jig we were Trolling. This has happened before, but never Lure have we caught one. We tamed it a ways, but when I tried to pull it in it dropped dff - thoroughly drowned. Isa Bertolome', Galapagos, Ecuador 4-5 Feb Numerous small islands here and Sullivan Bay (Santiago) in general. Seeposed to be great fishing ground, two shared the anchorage with a lobster boat (DeVillamil). Get in around 5 PM. Drizzling overcast cool (70's). Most of the group went ashore at Sullivan Bay. Dottie & I took 21 Tomahawk to went to nearly Bertolome'. 2 lava areas border a 100m strip of sandy beach. One of the lava areas is soft, like compressed ash. Other area is hard & brittle apt to crumble& break when trodden. Behind beach is a 3-5m zone of Cryptocarya, Sceuter, etc. Behind that drops down into mangroves. I set the traps all - thru the vegetation caught 11 rats of both species. Saw a few Tropidurus, not many & most quite small this w. adult colors (2'). Very skittish. Commonest in the sand area.
