Marge Pond 1974 Journal 28 Isla Marchena, Galapagos, Ecuador 2 Feb Janet & I set up 5 nets, 5 near the beach. 3 Feb 3 bracket traps into the vegetation. Tons of females. Lots of mochas, warblers, galapago flycatchers & dove. Hawks a problem also, 2 gaping holes at a pile of dove feathers by us net. A magnificus, A. fortis, A. fuliginos, esthrida olivacea, Platyspiza crassirostris. Numerous Tropiderns, open sea lions. Several Sea lion skulls smashed esp across the roostin'. Nesting pelicans w/ eggs. No gulls sign, tho they are supposed to bear the island. a little rain at 4:15M, overcast at 6. Rainy hard offshore but it never reaches. Very humid, uncomfortable. Isla Tower, Galapagos, Ecuador 3 Feb Darwin bay. No native birds known from -4 Feb here (except a single possible mislabeled Tropiderns). Completed 6 ft sharks (4 stillman) right along the shore. Birds very disappointing. Not nearly as many as 2 years ago, & they are not breeding generally (a few gulls had eggs, & there were few tree from bootleg chicks. But few & they looked starving. Green heron, night herons in dosand). Lava gulls swimming in a tide pond, 2013 boobies sp, frigate bird, tropic bird, asdp. Gulls, petrels, shearwaters, etc.
