At lower edge of the dark green zone on the mountain. First we passed lava rock,
Then crotas feet which is very sparse, a few trees per acre & no canopy, then wetter areas w/ lots of veg. Near the dark green zone ferns started to appear & this was same area of dense grass. Lots of Burseria trees also some large. But little sail anywhere - mostly lava rock of various size & age, making walking difficult. Some mistletoe in the tree
Mistletoe.
Goat feces are still visible everywhere as are goat bones, but most are old & whitened.
Higher up we saw some fresh droppings heard goats calling, & Pault saw a fat sleek adult.
The elevation of most of our goals has certainly made a difference in the sort of food available.
Set up snare at the highest point we reached:
Mockers, warblers, vermilion flycatcher, grayayas flycatcher, & dove all common. Caught G. magni-
vastis, G. scander, G. fuliginosa, G. fortis,
G. difficilis, Camarhyvulus paritculula.
We caught a few birds - G. magnivastis, G.
scander, & G. fuliginosa - with a good noise.
They are wary but persistence worked. They soon became accustomed to the slight noise poking.
