Tortuga Pt, Isla Isabela, Galapagos, Ecuador
30 Jan. Spent a few hours here with Janet &
Nancy, while Beagle picked up Knight &
Patterson, Narborough. Sandy (black) beach,
mangroves. Also much newer lava. Very rough,
no vegetation in the lava. The mangroves are
high - 30 feet or more, dense. The tide was in &
there was a foot or mixed water covering the
roots of the mangroves. Saw [illegible] few
finches - including a single mangrove finch -
but there was nowhere to set nets. Mocked
yellow warblers common also.
Many Tropidons, more than at Tagus (also
2-3 miles away & Tourist, frequent fagas
& mothers). Iguanas are bigger here also & many
were adult. However the are similar,
skittish & very difficult to catch. But we
got 10.
Lots of cat droppings, one cat skeleton. 300-40
sea lions on the beach. Penguins, comedants.
Numeous boobies, as at Tagus.

arrived around noon. Went ashore on a side
to look for geckos. We cruised around first for a
while while the captain played with the Specta
finder. Beneath the sea is as precipitous as above.
Depth changes of over 200 ft in a few feet.
