Vegas Plan 1974 Journal 17 Black Beach, Isla Floreana, Galapagos, Ecuador 28 Took an adequate sample of G. fuliginosa, some G fortis a couple Conarhynchus parvus on Platypiza & we saw but did not catch turtles. Generally poor netting. Saw smallin flycatchers. Saw no Tropidonotus in th Highland - only near the shore Wright said they didn't appear until after 8; generally late for the island lizards. Crew went out to look for lobsters, for a short time (>1 hr) they pulled up 10-12 large spiny lobsters. Good fishing too. Tagus Cove Isla Isabela Galapagos Ecuador 29 Jan Left Floreana at midnight about a 14 hour run to Narborough. Dropped off the Patton, the Wrights, & a lot of equipment then 40 minutes across to Tagus. Weather continuing overcast breezy. Misunderstanding w/ captain - we thought we were to have more time at Tagus, probably saw no sense in it. Amicable though. Very dry as elsewhere. Trees low, very sparse. Craters. Lots of old lava flake, crumble. Up the hill from the landing is a fresh-water lake, but water is too sulfury to be potable. Do have ducks in it though. Around part of it, right next to the water, is a 20-30 ft deep zoned Screeas. Absolutely impenetrable.
