Nergy PUB 1974 Journal 10 Barrington Bay, Isla Barrington, Malapaos, Ecuador. 22 Jan. sea turtle was seen, & Wright painted out tracks leading up to the beach & a place where eggs had been buried. The 6 drag their tails on the sand, leavi a characteristic trail ~~~~ We saw many snakes, probably 2 types - one with stripes, one with blotches. Most were small, >24", but no I saw exceeded 30". They were particularly common at night, when we saw 5 or 6, but Wright uncovered medium to large which break up on old rotting cactus log, & I saw a snake beside a rock. One I saw at night made the mistake of crawling under a sea lion as it leaped up to bellow at us. The sea lion came down, bellowed again, & went right back up. The snake made off rapidly. Academy Bay, Isla Santa Cruz, Galapagos Ecuador arrived late afternoon. Hurriedly put out 20 traps/lines. My 10 were also placed where vegetation ends, just above where the intertidal gone. 23 Jan. 5 rats, 1 cay & 3. They seem to like the water. Spent the day in the lab & unpacking the equipment which arrived on the Coliuchina while we were on Barrington.
