Wyea Phil 1974 Journal 5 Academy Bay, Isla Santa Cruz, Galapagos Islands, Ecuador 20 Jan About their fresh water supply; apparently the rainy season is late in starting yet they yet show evidence of recent breeding, the g's have descended tests, & all have at least some fat. Most rats also had large tapeworms encysted in their livers - some up to 3 x 1/4 (as in earlobe). Tapeworm 3" long. 21 Jan Left Academy Bay for Barrington - 2 hr cruise. Barrington Bay, Isla Barrington, Galapagos, Ecuador partly cloudy, daytime temp inside 80's. Pleasant, tho somewhat humid. This island has a particularly dry dry appearance. The scutes zone along the shore is pale & the tree castings (which start 10-20ft above sea level around the bay) are green but old, plants are either brownish or totally leafless. Put out 2 bird nets into scutes zone & 2 among the tree castings. Saw no finches elsewhere, & few around the nets. There are however, lots of mocking & they are remarkably fearless & curious. Also yellow warblers. Put out 26 tomahawk traps & 75 Sherman (Large collapsible type). Most traps went into the scutes zone where we had best luck last trial. Fruit D'ran - few anyone of the native. Echo hunting after dark was as successful as usual. 2 teams. Janet & I got 9 in about an hour. These are smaller than average, & most
