Myers Phil 1974 Journal Academy Bay, Isla Santa Cruz, Galapagos Island, Ecuador 18 Jan. arrived at Baltra around 3 PM. met by Beagle II, which took us to Academy bay. arrived after dark 8 PM. mostly clouds, temp in 80's. flying out we saw mostly clear skies from the coast of Ecuador until 50 mi. from the islands. Then mostly to completely cloudy. yet here it has reportedly been very dry, with no serious rains yet this year. Patton & I set out 20 large yellow webber sherman in the weeds near buildings in nearly thorn scrub. Traps went out around 10 PM. walked inland, up a following a path about .5 mi. a steep hill to a small, locked concrete can old seismograph station) building, looking for geckos. It was on this building that we had seen best geckos last trip, it it was the same this year. We took 4 off, no on each well (~15'x10'). Picked up 4 more on the lava, I saw 6 other which were either too small or too quick. 14 total, 8 caught. It seemed better later in the evening. we saw very little before 10, best from 10-11pm they web fairly common on the rocks which had been heated earlier in the evening or perhaps less alert.
