Wyes plus 1973 Journal 179 12 Nov. From Chaco Hwy to km 130, Dept. Pte Hayes, Paraguay is about as high as it gets, & according to the man at km 100 who has relatives at km 500, Salazar (330) received nearly 50mm of rain last week. The first this year of significance. Up to about km there were many lumpskin & snail bits, where we would normally see 102 there were dozens. Also miniature snail bits. A big year for snails? Saw a fair # of water birds, especially the white faced tin ducks. But nowhere were they the big concentrations of herons & ibises & storks that we saw almost a year ago. Day was mostly cloudy & cool, & we saw many wren kills than usual. 21 Nov 226 km NW Villa Hayes by rd, Dept Pte Hayes, Paraguay estancia day trip to Siete Horizontes, to get a bat sample. Weather was clear, calm, temp 30-33°C. F[illegible] crossed the Paraguay on the 7:4 M ferry, made it to the ranch at 11:30. Very, very fast - went in the family station wagon & father drove. Bats were as before - hundreds in 3 roosts. This trip showed always, young clinging to the walls, mixed in with m's & f's M. nigricans & M. albescens. While I could see no segregation from the floor, the first batch taken from the right hand side of the mess & from the rafters nearly, was almost entirely M. albescens m's & f's in cage #1. The next batch came from the left hand
