270 km NW Villa Hayes rd. Dept. Pt. Hayes, Paraguay
22 Sept Most notable was that over 90% of the bats were marked. Several skins, 1 one Phyllostus, plus nest (made of wool) & 4 babies, badly haired.
They were very close to sheep pen. Most of the bats were N. nigricans by 9:30 temp was 22-23°, but too active.
290 km NW Villa Hayes rd. Dept. Pt. Hayes, Paraguay arrived 3 PM. High temp 27-28 & 30° with clouds now from N. Told to Peterero, Don Germeno asked him to save wild animal skins for me. Enthusiasm. Heard goat in well of cook shed & main house. A met up, at each of these places. 12 M. nigricans, 3 Molossus. Released the M. nigricans after marking them. Kept the Molossus for Martin. All bats came from the cook sheds.
23 Sept clear cool temp 15-17°C at sunup. Immediately did the roof over the corral. Bat quite active. At least of those in the first trap we encountered escaped, all of those in the 2nd got away. Neverthless, strange bats were torpid 3 Tadarida, torpid. By 8:30 the temp was over 20°, we left. On the way out not far from the house we met another man with a dead fox. Paid 50 G's for the skull & carcass -- he kept the skin. Also gave him about 10 22's. Pussycat -- with clored head & feet. Partly cloudy, light north wind! High clouds, St. Maize. Lots of
