Muyas pluv 1973 Journal 166 300km NW Villa Hayes id, Dept Boqueron Paraguay. 31 Aug in all directions. Saw this repeatedly. Late in day today we see only two small, flocks except where food is concentrated. Picking up 4 & bats from last night, all pregnant. gave these to Martin. 1 Sept 458 km NW Villa Hayes id, Dept Boqueron Paraguay lift R. U end early, dive into Filadelfia, filled up on gas & water. Arrived here around 3 PM. hot - temp in 80s. south wind, clear skies. Set Wetzel /2 Macabee gopher traps + 1 steel trap in the two holes. These are located on a slight rise, soil not noticeably different from second trip. Vegetation is scattered lush turf bunch grass. Lots of black earths. The holes are all plugged, some very freshly. There are hundreds in an area of about 1 hectare. They seem to be more than when we were last here. The tuco themselves were occasionally calling; a low, drumming duck-like sound given underground. One would call & other would answer, but never more than one at a time. Then there would be a long silence. I heard them back at night & during the day; this was during the day. By the time I had finished setting the traps (about an hour) its first had been set off & to tunnels replugged. Eventually all opened tunnels were replugged. I always
