Hayes, Paraguay. 20th: roof so they may have simply crawled up one palm log to the crest of the roof, & down the cuspately long on the opposite side. There was also a noticeable tendency for eggs of & N. nigricans to be associated w. a single ♂ M. nigricans. After dark I saw a few Mystes flying, tho didn't see as many as last night. Also watched 3-4 Notilis leporinus [illegible] over the pond in back of the houses. Alvarenga & I walked out along the river to the opposite bank 8-10:30 PM. Started drizzling. Saw the usual 6-8 jays. Alvarenga insisted on shooting more. Nothing else. Shot a "pato brogado" muscovy duck - along the river at about dusk. Monstrous also saw 30-40 sandpipers, mostly in flocks. Yesterday they were none. Not to do, before F & I spent a total couple of hours in place where if they had been here I should have seen them. 21st: dawned raining. 8AM temp 12.5°C. Afternoon overcast. Went downstream from the dam nearest the house to the next dam. Alvarenga says there are a whole series. Area is very nice. Wale, looked up, lots animal sign not too many cattle. Saw many muscovies. River is narrower here. Didn't go out in evening. Looked for sandpipers along river, but
