Weyer Philip 1973 Journal 156 27.5km NW Villa Hayes rd, Dept. Pte Hayes, Paraguay 19 Aug 8:30 PM went for a week w. Alvarenga. Saw 6-8 deer, shot 2 of the little grazers. Also saw, & finally collected a Procyon cancrivorus. Most of the stuff was near water. The level is scarce enough now that wildlife congregates near the palm & rivers. Chased one pair of eyes that I believe was a lion - it moved right, size was right, & the tail was right. But never got a really good look. While chasing it we got totally disoriented & lost. Took 45 minutes & a compass to get straightened out. Very confusing. All the same despite wind & drizzle & dropping temp. 20 Aug still overcast, but drizzle stopped. 8:30 AM temp 13°C, same at 9:30A. Worked on palm root for a while, see under Vicker tattoo #1s. Caught many M. nigricans, all very torpid. 1 group of 3 P's we recaptured - had labelled the same 3 bob ends, approximately the same log 3 days ago. Also caught 4 solitary P's, similarly - under logs close to where originally captured. Many lats, mostly pregnant. skinned the Procyon. In belly were remains of a snake, a frog, snails & lots of unidentified goop - they masticate well. Otter had some large seeds & insects. after lunch it was clear that we would not be able
