Nugy Phil 1973 Journal 134 20 km N Celta by rd. Dept. Cordillera Paraguay 5 July one small cave, perhaps 5m x 5m x 1m or a little bigger full of vampires. Saw no other bats in the cave. Set up 3 web, over the bananas (unripe), 1 among large tree but over clear ground & 1 over a pond-overflowing pool. Also put about 30 snap trap & 20 Sherman in forest & in brushy second growth. A number of traps were placed near holes in sandy soil, especially in the brushy areas. Cooks help the fossorial rodent we caught on the road to Cordovici's. Saw deer tracks, agouti (?) track & trails, armadillo digging. But Zavala says not much game due to hunting pressure. Weather during day hot, temp in 80's. Mostly Partly cloudy, windless, very humid. But around dusk a cool sting (wind) came up from the 5 stately cloudless over. 'Nevertheless we caught 17 bats', mostly molossids among the trees (from the coast, in a large hollow dead branch). Best can't 3 bat in web got 1 Eptesicus (plus a couple of molossids) over the pool. Nothing over the bananas. Nothing in traps at 8 PM. Saw 3 deer - adult & 2 fawns, looked large. Probably thorned forest buck? also a rabbit. 6 July 2 rats in live traps. 1 a Pallus caught in footsheel,
