Myers Phil 1973 Journal 133 25km S Puerto Iguazee by Rd, Dept Misiones, Argentina, 30Jul"Iguazee" may also be spelled "Iguazu". This was strictly a tourist trip to see the falls. Bus picked up a road killed anteater, in the middle space of the large Pines & Araucaria plantations that line the road. Rotter took only head & nothing to measure with. The 'forest', where there is forest is tall, dense rainforest. Lots of leanas & lianeweed. Very wet, cool, &veriest. Temp in 60's, 40's at night. Fog. 20 km N Altos by rd, Dept Cordillera, Paraguay 5July. Estancia "La Susana", belongs to Zavala, who lives in Asuncion. Encargado is Julio. The ranch is in the rolling hill country, near Tobati'. To reach it one goes San Bernardino & Hitos, then the cutoff to Aguay. At Loma Grande turn rt, & 8 kms late, the rd ends at La Susana. Old estancia, now used for raising horses for the military. Between 1948-1965 not well cared for, & much quo back to bush. But in the last 2 years has been intensively cropped. 1600 Ha, 1000 hd of cattle which Zavala consults about vaccum. Horses, sheep, goat, a few boar. Jag fruit & sugar cane plantation - banana, pineapple, citrus, papaya guava, etc. Mandioca. The forest is mostly broken into islands surrounded by grassland. Some marshy wetdry. Low rocky ridge, dry sandy rock.
