Wesley Phil 1973 Journal 112 4/20 (crossed out) bum NW Villa Hayes lyrd, Dept. Boqueron, Paraguay 6 apid anything about this protection as an armadillo, yet they are numerous piles / deer droppin', & I saw what looked like small cat feces. night warm - low 80's, mostly clear, st. winds from N. caught 1 small black Myotis at 8 PM, which released. very quiet - heard no birds, or spider monkey howl/cries. 7 apid 2 rats, 1 small 'possum in traps. all were in trap set around fallen or holed tree - one of the rats was in a trap set in a hole 10 ft off of the ground. clouded up early. 460 bum NW Villa Hayes lyrd, Dept. Boqueron, Paraguay vegetation similar but w/ a small pond by the road. lot of dead trees & old rotting brush piles by the road. Burned palo santo - oily residue which burns hot & low, remarkably nice odor. No small grassy area (3-400 m2) lined with rat trail & droppings. The armadillos are driven but wary. (caught several glimpses). May be guinea pigs around now - it clouded over w/ low dark clouds. some pts of drizzle, but little precip. Temp down to 66 at 7 PM. Set out 40 snap traps, 1 Schugla, & 3 steel traps - the latter 2 types in guinea pig runs. Shot 2 thrashers for dinner.
