Museum Plow 1973 Journal 105 Catarina Newville Hayesleged, Dept. Plb. Hays, Paraguay 30 Mar Desert (both) lot of mosquito about as 31 Mar clear warm. night temp in 70s. not much wind. 4 not in the traps, all in the nest. They seem to especially like the damp tunnel and caves place here, though elsewhere this has proved to a rather sterile habitat. one new rat. one of the steel traps was sprung again, but nothing remained. Need larger traps. left about 1PM. Post was open by mid morning. all rat, bat! When I released the bats we noticed a strange chip. I placed them all, feed down, on a quebracho (where the molossid caught it). The molossid turned around so that they were head up before climbing up. The Noctilis went up feet first, also the molossid went into the post hole with no fear, but when the Noctilis trap at them was much squeaking. The Noctilis eventual flew off, mostly in ever-enlarger circular patterns, seemed confused. The Molossus seemed to know where they were - wow at least so that was obvious sniffing photos. Stopped at El Centro Apostoleio (km 128) briefly to deliver some stuff to Faste, show. 21 km. Newville Hayesleged Dept Plb Hays, Paraguay [Roger & I] stopped here a month or so ago. Set up 3 nets over roadsides.
