Nuey Phil 1973 Journal 100 12 km N Tobati'uyrd, Dept. Cordillera Paraguay 23 March Some of the forest is 50-60 ft tall. Lots Pleana, few epiphytes. Very diverse ground cover dense in most place, especially with bromeliads but some areas have almost no ground cover due to cattle trampling. The cattle have made beautiful set of trails thru the monte as well. At present they are only a few wet spots in the grassland (except for several ha. of swamp. During the winte, according to Sr. Brasai, almost all the grassland is inundated. The grassland is complex- many sp. of Mimosot & dicots. Bunchgrasse predominat. The cowboys burn frequently. We camped in a rather extensive wld - at least a couple of ha transected by a running stream. Weather is warm (evening temp is 80, drop down into upper 60's in early morning) still & clear. Set out 50 snaptaps, all in monte. At 9 PM I ran them; one had caught 1 water rat, not far from the stream. I put up net up we a wide part of the stream (20'). I catch very little afrix, but at about 8:30 I started catching Sturnia. ended up with 6 Sturnia (2 abd. & released), 1 huge litcher, & 2 Mysti - the first this side of the Paraguay R.
