Wyea Phil 1973 Journal 99 Recolita, Asunción, Paraguay 15 March same 2 nets as last night. caught 5 Molossus, 1 Eptesicus in early even. closed net at 10 PM. 16 March opened nets at 4:30 AM. air temp 73°F, clear, & breezy. nothing 17 March 2 nets we pool. light overcast. 10 PM temp 86°F. 2 Molossus, 1 L egis. no mosquito. 4 km ESE Asunción, Paraguay 21 March This is Quinta Rivola, barrio Luis Alberto de Herrera, now rented by Phil William H.A.I.D. 10 acres, planted in mango, guayabas, avocados, & citrus, other fruit, eucalyptus, etc. Some mandioca & some unempt field. large red house. couple of cows & chicken around. night overcast sprinkle. temp in 80's. Set up 6 nets, mostly between tree. One long lane lined by mango very promising. (small) I caught 2 molossids (released) 1 L. borealis, 9 artibius (escaped), 2 sturnia, & 1 Desmodus rotundus! plus & someación vampire. Most bats early dark - after nine PM also caught a large tree frog in a bush. 12 km N. Tobati by rd. Depto. Cordillera, Paraguay 23 March on 7 March caught a snake here - was crawling along a fence wire. emerald green. also saw several house rat. ranch belongs to Sr. Brosón of Tobati. enviable. 50 ha, couple of hundred cattle. a few sheep & pigs & fowl. setting is about 80% grassland with 20% or so slightly raised "islas" of forest.
