Meyer Plued 1973 Journal 95 275 km NW Villa Hayes, Dept. Pl. Hayes, Paraguay 20 Feb we got them last time & this time I had not, we got them flying by banging with long sticks. Collected 19, & there were probably 3x that many. Due to oil pressure problems we needed to drive slowly, & since we had live animals we decided to return at night. Mod est trip to Villa Hayes at 30 km/hr, w. several stops. Saw 7 fox, 1 large (30") Boxyg, saw WTs released a TatĂș Bolita. This trip was notable for the large #s of mosquitoes especially in the zone where it had rained heavily a week earlier (around km 200). Temp way high - max around 40-41, min in mid 30's. Partly cloudy - clear. Slight breeze from N. None of the no-see-ums that had bothered us at the beginning of the month. I am impressed by the erratic nature of insect abundance. After rain, there are many mosquitoes. But when it really heats up (usually a week or so after a front moves thru & rain comes) the mosquitoes disappear & the midges come. But good rain is completely unpredictable, & rain in this zone only seem to happen a couple of times a year.
