Weyey Philb 1973 Journal 24 213 km NW Villa Hayes bzrd., Dept. Pto. Hayes, Paraguay 19 Feb along the road at this locality. Pond bulldozed along roadside for drainage - 3-4" of water here the else where they are a couple of feet deep. Veg nearby is dry but heavy "wood" - This may could be shallow standing water for some kilometers, but it may not be too. Camped in an old clearing near the road set traps mostly in brushpots at edge of grassy-shrubby area & the forest (old catcher 3 Akerman [sic]) rotten branches & tree in heaps, Armadillos digging & lots of runways (is small armadilla?) Camped in early evening & early morning Caught 11 rats over the ponds (2 net). Chased a Procyon away from the nets several times. saw a gray-necked wood rail ("gallineta") for dinner, delicious. Left about 8 AM. Drive 20 Feb to Buen Avigo to ask permission to go to Mandeygu. They had rained 130mm in Mandeygu less than a week ago & roads were arrived at Buen Avigo they'd received only about 50mm & things were quite dry. went on to Pgo Colorado where - illness where a mechanic tried to minister, to doctor. 275 km NW Villa Hayes bzrd. Dept. Pto. Hayes, Paraguay. Rincan Charrico drove in about three hrs to get Mayotis & ask questions. Mayotis easy - still in the room when
