Wyen 1972 Journal 79 1miStovai'byrd, Dept Iardellera, Paraguay 2 Dec temp about 80° (9 A.M.) 5 km E Asuncion. Dept Asuncion, Paraguay 6 Dec 5 nets, 1 over swimmin post, 4 in neighboring woods. 7 of the small Molossops, 3 & larger, + 1 small whitebellied molossid (a Molossops also ->) weather warm (80) cloudy. Netted 7:30-9:00 Molossops flew at 8:10. only a few some of the. october at 8:20 in May. 7 Dec a repeat but fewer bats. 2 Molossops, 1 Eumops. again 80°, cloudy 5 nets in woods. 230 km by rd to Villa Hayes, Dept Pte Hayes, 13 Dec Paraguay Dr Weiker and I, Buen Amigo. There has been much rain in the last 2 weeks. Over 90mm fell here, including 35mm on Dec 6. Things in general look a little greener, there is standing water in many places, the most of the fields are still dry. The mosquitoes & no-see-ums are thick, to be counted in # per exposed in². There are frogs in most of the ponds...lots of chemi-like lizards running around (saw in Oct.) & lost several fresh tayuquesci skins, hanging in the cowboy quarters. Netted the most on the porch. I completely enclosed the area with 4 nets. First bats appeared late around 8:30. Initial burst of activity petered out in 1/2 hr or so. Since this time & until 9:30 we were sitting near the nets.
