Prior to [illegible] while men, Duvliany apparently set fire for driving game). Certain [illegible] palms & land grasses are apt for an area which is periodically burned. The Prosopis also seems to manage to survive most fires. Possible lightning isn't also - as was before man. Either no fierce electrical storms. I should also note that the mont leeo- at least the most developed monte- seems to burn, while [illegible] grass fire at the experimental station burned to the edge of the (less developed) monte & stopped. Here much of the undergrowth is burned out & apparent man of the larger trees are killed particular those with hollow portions if in search of the fire. There are 2 shallow ponds & a well w/in a few hundred yards of the Retiro. Nearest water other than this is said to be about 5 km. So I set 4 nets, 2 over each pond. It was a mistake to set so many. Bat, started me at 7:20, well before dark. The grey horse myotis were first. By 7:30 all 4 nets were full. Retraced the bottom trammel of all 4 nets first & lifted them well above the water, then I
