Journal 26 Oct Retiro Mandeyu', 20km SW of km 205 Derta Pte Haye, Man to get here Estancia Buen Amigo Km 230 Ruta Trans Chaco Paraguery 30 km Retiro Mandeyu' Estancia Santa Ana Km 205 Flower is mixed with palm. Most of the care trees are quebracho & sarmiento (with a spiny thorn). When they clear there leave only the quebracho - whether for its valuable wood or simply because of the difficulty in cutting it I don't know. As a consequence of leaving many large fires this tendency for 2nd growth to be dense stand of thorny Prosopis one tend to think that the climax vegetation here (if there is such a thing) is the thick thorn much overlain with quebracho. Most of it would probably eventually return to the more diverse vartal however, climatic permitting. At least one can easily make out a successional sequence with this steps: grass grass & palms, Prosopis thicket etc. to bromeliads & some other brush, built of organic matter in so said gradual addition of other species. The first stage goes quickly - to Prosopis in 2-3 years. Forest - quier's sale? It would be interest.
