23Oct NW Villa Hayes Rd, Dept Pte Hayes, Paraguay
23Oct released. 7:45 angle first bat from roof &
from then until 8:30 I was busy. Caught
36, including 2 small molossid which I
released unmarked & 1 which I kept.
I kept 10 Nyctis & Molossus tattooed 23.
Unfortunately those that I kept turned out to
be not so distinct sp. So I can't be
certain that all the banded individuals are
the same. The two sp. of Nyctis & the large
molossid apparently use the same roost, or at
least adjacent part of the roof. Must get
incredibly hot! That one of the released
molossid was a preg. ♀, the other a scrotal ♂.
Quit at 10 after not catching anything for ½ hour,
& not wanting to recapture the marked
bats as they returned. 10PM temp 88°F.
Night clear windy. Lots w. little or no fat.
after skinning the bats, I found most of them the
♀'s to be lactating. I suspect that had I handled
the tattooed ones roughly (i.e., squeezed the
nipples w. forceps) more would have yielded
milk. Most had enlarged nipples but
(still?) largely covered with hair. Just starting
to lactate? Verruinary tissue quite swollen.
24Oct
hot, clear, strong wind from N. walked to
Guireba cas wich Nortilis roost. Thermometer,
6" up hole in tree registered 31°C, which
