230 km NW Villa Hayes by rd, Depo Pte Hayes, Paraguay
Estancia "Buen Amigo" belongs to Dr Weiler of Tucuman. Rain
locally by the Mbayarano - called "Mayeri" -
& by Sr Estigarribia. Roughly 25,000 ha, 8000 head
of cattle, 200 house, 40 people at helgers include;
a group of Tencera Indians. Hard to say if hard to
find out), but looks like superb Chaco and ha
are cleared. Rest is marsh or swamp. The
macho "siete punta" pasenear to house -
100' - 200'
past water, 1.5' deep, little or no flow. Possibly
elsewhere broken into ponds. Very little
standing water away from the Paches &
associated dikes - water is a problem
during drought, when my to 200 cattle
so have died. They do have an Australian tank.
Also bad problems with Prosopis reclaiming
cleared areas. They are experimenting w/
foreign grass of several kinds (pangola, buffalo,
Dechant Bermuda, etc) but so far plants
have been primarily for seed & usually
no more than 10 or 15 ha (not sure whether
this includes projected planting). None of
that which I was shown looked particular
happy. They have two little orch citrus,
even sweet oranges, & have mango, papaya's,
& guavas. These grow with minimal help -
apparently a small amt of organics
matter (cow droppings & leaves) is mixed
