Mayer Aug 1973 Journal 57 10/15 Tobatí byrd Dept Cordillera Paraguay 12:00 I started keeping track of the size - I caught a few 8's, no 9's. Several of the vampires, most of the glossophagines & the, included in the 3'd op- a Carollia, all hit the net going into the cave rather than calm sect. It is possible that they had left around the corners of the set & wheeled around. We quit netting around 8:15 PM - no point in catching more vampires. Set about 25 snaptraps & 2 steel traps over the hill & in the brush at the base of the cliff. oak for bait. Night was warm & windy. 3:00 Day dawned clear, warmed up into 90's; left midday, still windy. Nothing in trap but the folded deep net (closed but still suspended between poles) contained 4 more o' vampires, for a total of 150 & no 4. I guess we caught around 20 vampires in all. Evening - shot a rabbit. Trap set in 2 lines - one other middle & up along base of rocks, 1 item riparian veg. Climbed down to road & set up net over some ~~ medium sized pools in a stream, which runs off the rocks. Saw lot of bat. Learned that the valley is called MPOÍ CUA - Place of the boy.
